Thursday Tunes / "Daughters" by Nas (A song about being a Dad!)

Thursday, July 26, 2012

Incase you guys have been sleeping the rapper everyone loves to hate, Nas, has released a new album and it's actually pretty awesome. On top of just being a solid album, It got an 8.3 on Pitchfork and is listed on their "Best New Music" list, it has a song thats lyrical content deals with Nas' missteps in raising his teenage daughter Destiny, who courted controversy in 2012 when she posted a picture of her condom collection on Instagram. -C

Keith Haring + Urban Outfitters + OBEY... a match made in hypocritical HELL!!!

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

So OBEY & Urban Outfitters have teamed up to release a series of Keith Haring branded clothing. If using an artists work that he didn't create with the intention of mass consumerism wasn't bad enough Urban Outfitters' Founder/CEO is Richard Hayne, an outspoken anti-gay / gay-marriage conservative who's donated money to people like Rick Santorum to name one.

For anyone who doesn't know; Keith Haring was an amazing artist who was openly gay and died of complications from AIDS.  The Keith Haring Foundation statement is "to sustain, expand, and protect the legacy of Keith Haring, his art, and his ideals".  His ideals? Really?! Now you see why I believe OBEY and The Keith Haring Foundation's choice to do this collaboration with a company who's founder and president is anti-gay and gay rights is a pretty insane decision and certainty not a good way of expanding Keith's legacy and ideals. Keith Haring must be rolling over in his grave. Either theres something I'm missing or this was just a horrific oversight by all involved.

p.s. I looked extensively to find reasoning behind the decision and found nothing. Also couldnt find anything saying any of this money is going to anything good - but I assume it has to be not that it would makes it a hell of a lot better. -Craig

Home Improvement!

Monday, July 16, 2012

I have been on such a home improvement kick lately! I started by getting rid of the ugly, faded and just old looking off white in our living room and bathroom and replaced it with a bright "true turquoise" in the bathroom and a "golden yellow" in the living room. It brightened up both rooms and I LOVE it.

Next up was this awesome vintage dresser we got for Sierra off of Craigslist. It came as a ugly tan color and we went with Behr's "Cozumel" teal to give it a more fun child like look for her bedroom. I'm going to get brassy house numbers and tack on 1 - 5 on the vertical drawers sort of like this. Also considering painting that rectangle on the long door with chalkboard paint. Good idea or bad?

I don't know whats next but I'm excited to make our home feel more like our own and just a nice warm place to be. Have you been doing any home improvements? Any ideas for what I could do to brighten up our little Bostonian apartment even more? Hope you all had a lovely weekend! -Craig

Happy 3rd birthday Ashley & Autumn!

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

This past weekend we headed down to New Bedford (my hometown) to visit my parents and celebrate my twin nieces 3rd birthdays. The party was being held at the Freetown / Fall River State Forest which has big open green spaces, a wading pool with sprinkler for the children and space to just hang around and grill. The twins second birthday was in the same park last year and we somehow managed to end up IN the forest driving around boulders, roots, on grass and dirt paths. It was a horrific ordeal that ended with needing police assistance, feel free to read about it here. Unlike last year we made it to the party on time and forest-less with the help of GPS, iPhones and hand written instructions.

It was an awesome day with full of laughs, good weather and family. We also killed it on the gift giving front. We even got a text later that night that Autumn was going to sleep still wearing hers (see below).

I love seeing Sierra and her cousins play, laugh and grow together. It's been a fast and exciting three years and Sierra, Ashley and Autumn are quickly becoming the best of friends.

Watching the girls excitement over their cakes was so awesome and even better was watching Autumn start to dig into the whole cake with a fork! I may have egged her on :-). Sorry Aunty Alison!

Here is the original Hipster Dad, my Father.

Here is my mother playing with Autumn's new clock with Lily and Sierra.

All the toys in the world but Autumn and Sierra decided to get filthy and play in the dirt for a solid 35 minutes. It's so fun watching them play together.

Here is Autumn with one of her gifts; a slap watch bracelet. This little girl is OBSESSED with clocks of all kinds. She has a pretty big collection already and now she has one she can easily carry around with her at all times. :-)

Check out our new friends TruckerDeluxe.com !!!

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

So recently the dudes over at TruckerDeluxe.com reached out to us and asked if we'd like to try out anything from their site. Well one look and the answer was pretty obvious... DUH? They are so up our alley it's crazy with brands like Analog, Gravis, The Hundreds and Society (among a hundred others) it's a pretty one stop shop for all things hip and cool. We chose a couple of products we liked and they sent them out to us for free99 (Thanks Trucker!).

For a limited time if you use the code: HIPSTER20 you will get 20% off your entire order at TruckerDeluxe.com so get on that people!

I work in an office where I have to be halfway decently dressed but it doesn't mean I check my personality or style at the door and dawn the baby blue shirt w/ khakis. So I picked out the WeSC Sullivan shirt which is officially the comfiest and best fitting button up I own. Check it out here. It's 52 bucks which is more than I'd normally spend on myself but I assure you guys it is rad.

More importantly and relevant to Dads everywhere office pixel pusher or not is the second thing I chose which was the Gravis Uno Backpack. An awesome backpack for work by day and awesome manly diaper bag by weekend. It fits my laptop, my camera and as many diapers, wipes and toys as a toddler can ask for. It's way more comfortable than my old bag and I love the simplicity of the design.

Check out Trucker's wide array of backpacks here.
