In Boston we have a neighborhood called "Allston" which is normally where the hipsters drink, smoke cigarettes and vomit on the sidewalk but apparently young aspiring reporters live there too.
This little guy walks all over Allston and interviews local business owners. Try not to die from how cute this is... LOVE IT. -C
Our weekend via Instagram ♥ v.3
So this weekend was SWELTERING hot in Boston (as it was across the nation it seems) but we had a fun weekend and managed to stay cool with cookouts, water balloon fights with friends and of course our trusty air conditioner.
On Friday we had our weekly Family Movie Night and watched Matilda (streaming on Netflix right now BTW). For 6 months I've been wanting to paint some rooms, fix things around the house, get new furniture, etc but kept using the excuse "We may move! I don't want to bother doing X Y Z if we're going to move in 6 months!". Well we decided we're staying for another year so I have no more excuses. So this week I bit the bullet and started getting shit done including Saturday morning when I finished painting our bathroom from a boring white to a fresh clean "True Turquoise". After the painting adventure we drank our weight in coffee and then drove over to our local YMCA and finally signed up like we've been talking about doing for months! After a very productive morning we drove out to Milford, MA to enjoy a cookout with some of Lauren and I's friends. Unfortunately Sierra felt sick the whole time and just wanted to lie around on our friends couch :-(. Sunday she was still feeling under the weather so we had a snuggle in bed and watch Toy Story kind of day + Mama let me escape for a few hours to watch the Euro Cup Final too heh. Once she was asleep Lauren and I decided to have some drinks and continue our home makeover kick by painting our living room from a gross off white to a awesome bright yellow! All in all a pretty low-key weekend but got a lot done and saved up our energy for a busy 4th of July week coming up.
Even though Instagram decided to be down for a decent part of the weekend Lauren and I managed to snap some cute pictures. Enjoy. -Craig

Swing Sets and Neighborhoods "Swing Sets & Neighborhoods" by Moses Campbell
So haven't done Thursday Tunes in a long time but trying to get back into it because I love sharing music with you guys! So the other day I was listening to one of my favorite radio stations, WHRB, and they played this band "Moses Campbell" who sounds so good I jumped up and "Shazammed" it but it didn't work luckily they post their playlist online. This song - along with the whole album - is great! I highly suggest picking it up here.
Think: Tilly and the Wall meets The Decemberists meets The Front Bottoms meets The Unicorns.
* p.s. sorry the play button launches MySpace and then you have to hit play again - its the only place I could find it and their embedding features suck.

My child is a cookieholic.
Wednesday, June 27, 2012
Let me set the scene for you. We're all sleeping in the same bed (yes just like a butcher knife) and Sierra begins to cry, aka be an alarm clock, at around 7AM. I rub my eyes and look at her and she says, in a whimper, "I need a cookie...". This is the very first thing she said to me that morning. Just like an alcoholic who wakes up and the first thing they think of is "I need a drink...".
How did this happen?! How did I let my child become a cookieholic! She's vegan, she eats and loves veggies and sees blueberries, strawberries and frozen bananas as dessert treats. Somehow, somewhere she had her first cookie (cough Grammas house cough) and that was it - she was hooked. I have no scientific evidence to back it up but i swear theres something in toddler DNA that says: "You must love cookies, jelly beans and anything else that may give you a cavity just by smelling it". Is anyone else's kid a cookieholic? Perhaps we can start a support group?
Disclaimer: My kid is actually extremely healthy, especially for her age. Cookies, candy, etc are all very limited and are treats not daily parts of her diet. The post was more of a joke than anything else don't want all you internet peeps thinking my kid is a walking cookie dumpster. Although the part about "i need a cookie..." being her first words one morning is 100% true.
Father Who Killed Daughter's Alleged Molester Won't Face Charges In Lavaca County, Texas
Tuesday, June 19, 2012
Did you guys hear about this news story? So apparently this family owns a farm in Texas and hires a man, Flores, to help watch some of the horses from time to time. Well one day someone, the witness, see's this Flores forcibly carrying the farm owners daughter to a secluded area and runs and gets the girls Father who hears the daughter crying and runs toward her crys. When he finds Flores, he has his pants and underwear down around his ankles and is molesting the FOUR YEAR OLD GIRL. The Father rips the "man" off of his daughter and "inflicted several blows to the man's head and neck area". So Flores is hurt very badly and the Father calls 911 and is telling them what happened and saying "Come on! This guy is going to die on me! I don't know what to do!" -- So the police come, Flores is dead and the girl is examined and evidence shows that what the witness and Father said happened is true.
Now although the death is being investigated as a homicide the father is not and will not be charged or arrested because he used (what Texas considers) appropriate force to protect his daughter. Now normally I am a someone who says no one needs to die, he could have restrained instead of killed but in this case... GOOD FOR THE DAD! Not only did he not mean to kill the guy, I assume considering he called 911 and tried to get someone there to save him instead of just letting him die but his daughter was unable to protect herself so he did. Could he have possibly knocked the guy out, held him down, tied him up til' police arrived? Perhaps. But can your emotions or actions be controlled when some guy is raping your daughter? HELL NO. I think the Dad did the what every Dad in the entire world, including myself, would have done; protect your child by any and all means necessary. I feel awful that the father has to live with the fact he killed a man and more importantly that his daughter was hurt in this way but I hope he knows myself, and I'm sure just about everyone else in the world, knows he did the right thing. -Craig

INTERVIEW with Honest Toddler (@HonestToddler)
Monday, June 4, 2012
So unless you live under a rock you've probably heard of "Honest Toddler" by now. If not Honest Toddler is a twitter account that is apparently run by a child with a big attitude and comedic wit to match. His profile reads "Not potty trained. Not trying." which is what my own kid's twitter account would read if she had one.
With just under 400 tweets since May this toddler has already gained a following of 13,000+ and was nice enough to answer some questions for us over the weekend. So enjoy the interview and if you don't already follow him to do here. Also follow his blog here.
HT: I don't understand the question so I'm going to say yes.

THD: So when did you start Honest Toddler and was there any specific catalyst for doing so?
HT: On May 1stish. My catalyst was not having an outlet to express myself. Mommy & me art classes are apparently too much to ask.
THD: You now have over 13,000+ followers! Did you expect it to get so popular so quickly?
HT: No I didn't. But most everything I do is met with thunderous applause from my parents so I'm not surprised.
THD: With so many followers I assume you get a lot of feedback. Have you ever received anything that was especially rememberable, good or bad? (hate mail, fan mail, etc.)
HT: Someone asked my mom to stop drinking. She laughed and took another (big) sip.
THD: So I have to ask... Who are you when you aren't portraying the sassiest / funniest toddler on the Internet?
HT: Running, fighting invisible ninjas, unwrapping sanitary napkins, not eating, relieving myself, sleeping-ish, crying, laughing uncontrollably, and hurting myself.
THD: Tell us a bit about your family.
HT: I have two parents, their ages are unknown. Most people don't know that I actually do have a sibling who I prefer not to talk about. This child is older and quite rude/selfish.
THD: Honest Toddler's tweets are told from the perspective of a toddler w/ a Stay at Home Mom – is this from experience?
THD: What does Honest Toddler want to be when he grows up?
HT: Trucks.
THD: What are Honest Toddler's top 3 favorite childrens books?
HT: Bluberries for Sal (with no pages skipped), anything Eric Carle, and Strega Nona (that witch is crazy!)
Do you make up all of the tweets or do your followers sometimes email you ideas?
HT: I make them up.
THD: I noticed you started blogging in addition to the tweets over at http://honesttoddler. wordpress.com which is awesome. Do you have any other plans for the project in the future?
HT: This afternoon I plan to open the fridge 7 or 8 times.
What are your top 3 favorite twitter accounts (or blogs) to follow?
Weird Horse, Bad Luck Brian, Condescending Wonka :)
The Toddler Tip of the Day : "Never Tell Toddlers Plans in Advance"
Sunday, June 3, 2012
Sierra is napping right now and when she wakes up we are meeting up with Michael, Adriana and Hendrix for a day at the Zoo... and she has no idea. This is a strategic move from Team Parents because although she is insanely smart she can not comprehend a change of plans. For example, if Michael & Adriana's car breaks down, a freak snow storm in June or if the Zoo has to close on account of all of the animals have escaped. If plans change we are in MELTDOWN mode for the rest of the afternoon and I try to avoid those type of afternoons at all costs. I have learned this the hard way so heed my warning friends. I don't tell her plans unless I am 1000% sure they are happening, meaning I will tell her when we are on the way there and I am certain the animals have not escaped.
Call it silly but this has saved us from many of toddler tantrums because friends suddenly had to head back home or something was closed unexpectedly. So thats my toddler tip of the day. Trust me on this one! If you have any toddler tips let me know! -Craig

Transgender At Five
Monday, May 21, 2012
Last week The Washington Post posted a new article titled: Transgender At Five. It's a very interesting article about a child named "Kathryn" who at the age of two decided something must have gone wrong in her mother's belly because she is in fact a boy, even if not biologically. The article tells the story of how the family educated themselves and accepted him for who he was. It shows first hand the difficulties the family goes through and how, although not something they wanted, they have become poster boys for Gender Dysphoria and have to educate everyone around them. It's a wonderful read and I just wanted to take a second to share the story with you and applaud the Mother and Father for being more than supportive of their child's emotions, wants and needs. -C

Our Weekend + Mother's Day in Photos
Tuesday, May 15, 2012
Well HELLO blogger, long time no write! First off heres some THD news: We may be adding a third "hipster dad" soon which would mean a new blog design and a lot more posting! But enough about that! I just wanted to throw up some cute photos & captions from this past weekend. We had a very busy and fun filled three days complete with a very lovely Mother's Day so here we go!
Friday morning I dropped Sierra off at daycare and sadly went to work but the day flew by and the girls met me downtown for a family art outing. We went to the samson projects gallery in the South End of Boston to see "you dont deserve me" the new solo exhibition from one of my favorite artists and people, Steve Locke, who I had the pleasure of being taught by at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Here are a few of the pieces from the show. If you're in the area you should totally check it out. The work is amazing!! For directions and info check out samson's website here.
A lot of the paintings featured men sticking their tongues out which Sierra loved and walked around the gallery sticking her own tongue right back out at them. It was adorable and awesome to see her enjoying art. At around 7:00 we headed to our local vegan pizza shop and went home for Family Movie Night. We watched "Bee Movie" -- awesome. "WHY IS YOGURT NIGHT SO DIFFICULT?!"
Saturday morning the weather in Boston was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. It had been raining for about two straight weeks so as soon as we woke up we got out there and enjoyed it. We have been meaning to go to this awesome playground on the Charles for months so we finally did it and it was well worth it. Although a lot of the structures were geared towards older kids - a zipline included - Sierra still enjoyed herself and we saw lots of baby ducks which was awesome. After a nap and some lunch we headed to Foxboro to see our favorite soccer team, The New England Revolution.
Not only was the weather awesome but we won 4 - 1! Sierra also got to see her favorite part of the game, Slyde the Fox, the team's mascot. GO REVS! After the triumphant win we headed home where Sierra proceeded to stay up until midnight against our wished but finally passed out - and so did we.
Although we thought it was going to be raining for Mother's Day the sun decided to come out and play and the day was beautiful just like Saturday - thanks Mother Nature. In the morning we let Mama sleep in and Sierra and I called / FaceTimed all of our favorite Mamas to wish them a Happy Mother's Day!
There is a little warehouse near our home that holds Antique sales every Saturday and we are frequent visitors as you can see :-). It's on the Brighton/Watertown line and not to be missed if you're in the area. The guy is super nice and you can haggle down to basically whatever you want he's even given us stuff for free just because he thinks S is cute!
After we wished everyone a Happy Mother's Day we started our own with some vegan breakfast at the Allston Diner which you HAVE to try if you're in the area. They do vegan and non-vegan and it's so delicious / affordable. You won't be disappointed.
After brunch we hit up another playground near the diner where Sierra played with some new friends and ran so much she passed out once we were back in the car. With the sleeping toddler we decided to just drive around Boston and finally parked near the Charles for some windows down feet out the window relaxation.
After Sierra woke up we headed home to refuel with some lunch and possibly a beer. I cleaned out our sun porch while the girls blew bubbles in the driveway aka "our yard". To end the daywe headed out to Nahant Beach which is a 30-40 minutes drive from the city but well worth it. We had a nice picnic for dinner, dipped our feet in the water and watched the sunset. All in all it was a great weekend and I can not wait for the summer / more great weather! -Craig
